Aspire event. Next generation in West London logistics hot-spot, West Thames College welcomed over 1400 students throughout the Aspire day, each benefiting from the expertise, guidance, and inspiration provided by employer partners.
Employers from West London delivered talks, hosted stands showcasing their brand, conducted mock interviews, and engaged with learners including apprenticeship routes for freight forwarding and express delivery.
LSA chair Carl Lomas was in the main lecture theatre to talk career steps in logistics, Lomas showcased a pineapple as excellence in delivery, perishable goods from Costa Rica transported by road, rail, air, and water - six thousand miles, on time and in a supermarket in Isleworth, then delivered to your door, ‘That’s excellence in logistics – Are you inspired to a job in that supply chain?’ Lomas continued with the four streams of opportunity: mail, parcel, food delivery and meal to door. Talking diversity and a sector rich in clean air, with electric vehicles and gas trucks. Lomas spoke peaks from Black Friday to Mother's Day flowers and gifts that challenged team to achieve the customer promise of delivery to door 'on time, every time'. Expanding into the breadth of job opportunity. Lawyers dealing with border taxes and tariffs, to engineers sorting electric vehicles and IT experts driving the booking apps and routing software for delivery directions on the road. Closing, Lomas asked, ‘Do you aspire to a job in logistics, this is growing sector with a robust future and a clear career stairway; this sector wants you in West London.’
Dr Tracey Worth from University of West London was in the lecture theatre with Lomas, ‘Are you inspired to a management future? Univ West London has a step for you after college. If you aspire to degree level in Express logistics management, University of West London will have a career stairway route waiting for you as a future Express Manager on the BSc degree Hons course.
