Big student turnout for West London recruitment conference hosted at West Thames College's Feltham logistics centre.

Opened by shadow Skills Minister Seema Malhotra. Red Ribbon starting point for a fascinating feast of skills and knowledge in logistics.

 

 

West Thames College principal Tracy Aust was on a logistics fork truck with the top brass at the conference. DWP Job Centre lead for Logistics, Rob Andrew, Logistics Skills Alliance chair Carl Lomas and Univ West London Dr Tracey Worth to talk West London careers in next generation logistics.

Full length corridor of employer operators delivering work, jobs and career routes to the Heathrow area students. From TVS Rico Logistics to Flannery Plant logistics, Menzies, DayBookPro, ProCom, Telford Homes and more in a hugely interactive engagement.

College teams delivered detail on apprenticeships. Level two express logistics & sortation, there was freight forwarding opportunity, warehouse and storage and more options in transport that included compliance for fork truck licences.

Celebration for the event came in the form of cupcakes.

Hands-on activity saw the pallet challenge - where students got practical with parcels and loading space, understanding the volume challenges in loading the stuff of logistics, from order to door.

Shadow Minister Seema Malhotra addressed a busy logistics conference event which successfully saw three hundred students from IT to Business Studies walk through the college rooms of Feltham Logistics Centre West Thames College. Rooms packed full of employer-operator recruitment. There was further space to showcase areas - from DWP Job Centre Plus to the Institute of Couriers and from Level two logistics apprenticeship to Level six express degree manager with University of West London.

College Principal Tracy Aust opened the event, focused words on logistics hot spot of West London, career opportunities and transferable skills.

Shadow Minister for Skills Seema Malhotra spoke to the student guests, ‘My role in Parliament is scrutinising what the government is doing for skills. What young people need, What further education needs. Creating opportunity for young people. Hounslow West London area has the best ways for you to make choices in your life, It’s about you what you would like to do. Your learning and what logistics have to offer. Heathrow, England is the centre of logistics expertise that grows as a global leader in a global economy. Whenever you have a question in your mind for employers today, reach out to the college and employers about what you would like to see your college years are about. Building your foundation of your career, and when we see your success it is linked to our economy, the careers training. The responsibility of government is to ensure you get the training. Logistics is a relationship of a lifetime in an environment of support. Today hopefully, will answer the questions you have. Good luck in logistics in West London.

A masterclass delivery began the student journey

Logistics Skills Alliance in a joint effort with University of West London, DWP, Army Royal Logistic Corps (RLC), all spoke about job opportunity and course feasibility for a career in logistics.

Carl Lomas, LSA, spoke on 'What is Express?' and 'What is available in jobs and qualifications?'

Dr Tracey Worth, UWL spoke delivery material and brands in logistics and career progression pathways.

DWP Rob Andrew named national operator brands with employment in logistics and transferrable skills.

Passing over to John Rock who spoke military logistics with the Royal Logistic Corps (RLC) - full or part-time.

Carl Lomas wrapped it up with future steps for students into SWAPs and apprenticeships.

 

Logistics, a fast-paced career route for delivery in the West London Logistics hot spot of the UK.

Four streams of express to door, mail, parcel, food, and meal delivery. 60 billion deliveries a year to door in the UK. Dr Tracey Worth detailed the stuff of delivery, asking students what their experience of such goods was. Rob Andrew focused on National brands including CitySprint, Evri, DPD, FedEx, Yodel, UPS, Whistl. Rob reviewed transferrable skills for career steps in logistics and John Rock finished on full and part time military and the Army logistics options.

Carl Lomas brought an LSA focus to the students with a showcase on Express logistics, ‘What is this thing we call logistics?, let’s talk streams, mail, parcel, food and meal delivery – delivering to your door. What are the numbers? Logistics is keyworker delivery to the door. Dr Tracey Worth joined the showcase to ask students what their recent deliveries were, moving to the question of who the employer operator brands were. DWP Rob Andrew named Dr Worth's national brands with an operator engagement for jobs. Looking outside private sector, John Rock spoke Army - military logistics job role options. Then Lomas wrapped up with a vision of opportunity - from Sector Work Academy Programmes at the College to apprenticeships in logistics, for both drivers and sortation teams. Dr Tracey Worth delivered the last word with long-term career options on degree route logistics studies leading to future management jobs in the express sector.
