LSA sort an employer-led, employer-designed Trailblazer delivery for the very latest, brand-new apprenticeship in Freight Forwarding.

Customs Procedures, Freight Movement, Customer Service and Freight Costing at the heart of an employer-led, levy-funded Trailblazer delivery by the Logistics Skills Alliance for leading global supply chain solutions company Panalpina.

This year’s class welcomed successful candidates embarking on a new career in Freight Forwarding on the recently approved level three Trailblazer, International Freight Forwarding Specialist Apprenticeship. They form the next generation workforce for the sector and the programme is funded from the levy.

Logistics Skills Alliance’s James Billingham,

This is an employer-led programme. LSA have worked with Panalpina and their commitment to designing a programme that meets their business needs alongside providing an excellent training experience means we have an apprenticeship programme that provides customised training that is truly employer-led. The International Freight Forwarding Apprenticeship level three Standard was developed by a Freight Forwarders employers’ group. 18 months long, it covers core modules such as Customs Procedures, Freight Movement, Customer Service and Freight Costing.

Panalpina formed the first class of 2018, working with the Logistics Skills Alliance who used specialist sector knowledge to conduct a rigorous recruitment process, attracting new talent and investing in the development of a bespoke blended learning programme for new Panalpina recruits.

HR Director Katie Herdman of Panalpina commented

Panalpina has a history of investing in new talent and believe that high quality apprenticeship programmes add real value to our business across multiple divisions. Working together with the LSA to design this programme means that we have integrated the Panalpina way alongside recognised freight forwarding training programmes such as BIFA’s Customs Export and Import Procedures course.

Chris Cooper, MD of Panalpina said

We have a strong tradition within the business of bringing in new talent through apprenticeships. Each year we involve managers, previous apprentices across the business to improve our programme. It is fantastic that this year we finally have an apprenticeship available specifically for the role of Freight Forwarding and that has been developed by employers including ourselves.
